I ignore the psychological collapse of millions of people whose entire world has fallen apart. I ignore the psychological toll borne by Israeli soldiers and civilians - now, and in the future - through denial, through rage, through traumas that will follow them and their children.

I ignore the international isolation, the rising hatred, the transformation of Israel into a leper state, ostracised, a synonym for cruelty. I ignore the fear of Jews around the world, the bond between Israel and Judaism that is being torn apart.

I ignore the question of how history will remember us, in a decade and in a hundred years.

I even ignore the hostages, bound in tunnels, dying in body and soul. I ignore their families, staring wide-eyed with horror and disbelief at the actions of the Israeli government.

In Hebrew, the words "מתעלם" (mit'alem or ignore) and "נעלם" (ne'elam or disappear) have a common root: ע־ל־ם (A-L-M), which evokes the idea of disappearance, occultation or dissimulation.
